They said they didn't get a reward and that they couldn't have refused the offer anyway without facing punishment, and that they can't tell anyone what they did even now because they will be punished for it. They also agreed to cooperate as long as they can remain anonymous, because of the whole 'punishment' thing.
[He has the note! He pulls it out and reads from it.]
"I was told I would get a reward and didn't get jack shit.
But it's not really about the reward. I wasn't able to say no.
If there's anything else you want to ask you can give a message to one of the Watchers. I don't know if that will work but I want to help."
[He pauses to stick the note away, and then-]
I talked to Suriel and she said they would be punished if their identity was revealed. That's why we gotta play phone tag with the Watchers to get to them.
[She gets out her notebook and reads through a little bit, and then after a moment.]
I think we ought to ask them whatever they can tell us about these angels. If they were visited directly, they might know something we don't.
Furthermore, I think we ought to ask for more details on what they describe. The way they 'couldn't say no,' whether there are any exceptions to the rule that they can't speak of it? If they're telling us now, did the angel's control wear off at some point, or are they still under it? Are they aware of any of the other killers, do they know one another or work together in some way? Do they know of any specific reason why they were chosen?
And we ought to also ask about their daemon, if they noticed anything unusual about it after the way you did.
Then there is the question of whether we want to try to glean their identity in some way. I think it would be a poor idea, yes? It might scare them off.
