[A new island? A dream? Some kind of god or fae or demonic nonsense? Who knows.

Whatever it is, it's inconvenient. The person standing in front of him isn't... it's not the Rin he knows. Not from home, not from the Carnival and the islands. This Rin looks too human, looks far more human than Yukio's fae changes have made him look. It might not really be Rin, but it's not a good enough imitation to be intended to trick Yukio, he still recognizes the person in front of him as "some version of his brother". He can't afford not to, not after...]

Nii-san. [Yukio says, waiting for this Rin to make a move.

Yukio's fae changes are an obvious difference, and the general shabbiness of living on an island with no infrastructure is another contributing factor to not looking like Okumura Yukio. But it's the differences that Yukio doesn't even know about that are probably just as striking to Rin as the extra eyes and bladed tail. He's armed with a longbow and a rifle, and standing with the easy confidence of someone used to being healthy, with a lifetime of martial arts training and the strength required to be an archer.]

[It's definitely not the Rin that Yukio knows, not in any form. This Rin is a bit more...subdued, maybe? Slightly less energetic? Expresses himself without those huge smiles and goofy yelling that Yukio might expect of Rin? All of that, and more. Because this is a Rin that has Seen Some Shit.

He takes a few steps closer, holding a hand out like he's about to touch Yukio. Like he's seeing a ghost or something.]

Shit, what happened to you? The doctors didn't fuck up that badly, did they?

[He says it as a joke, but the worry there is legit: his Yukio had been in the care of doctors, and he thought they had done something to him.]

[Yukio knows what he looks like. He might not have a reflection anymore but he knows he looks like a freak, knows it's enough to catch people off guard, to get what is that thrown at him from strangers. From Rin, it stings.]

No, they didn't. [What doctors? Yukio's missing pieces, but he needs to make sure Rin understands that.]

The first thing you need to understand is that I am not the version of Okumura Yukio you know, and you are not the same person I know.

[Run had been about to ask how that's possible, but he stops himself short. After all, he knows of another instance of two of the same people existing.

It's a different world. It's an incredibly different world, but it's not Yukio's world. He moves past that quickly, shoves it to the side and moves on to explanations.]

I think for now the best solution to our problem is to figure out how to get me back to where I came from.

My current appearance is a result of an... unfortunate set of circumstances involving a deal with an extremely powerful fae and her worldhopping carnival.

My brother's changes were more dramatic than mine, but I don't think he minds the wings. [that last question? DODGED]

So is his guard wing-shaped too? Or is his Artifact-form normal? And does that mean that his Catalyst can fly too?

You know, his Artifact form! He turns into a sword, you turn into a gun? Or are you two Catalysts in that world?

[Carefully, Yukio holds his hand out. He's careful with his metal claws on Rin's skin, but then--]

You said you're a sword. What kind of-- [metal are you made out of but Rin's already transforming.]

[Luckily he's not made of CD iron or silver, so there's that. He's made of regular steel. Plus his hilt is covered in that fabric anyway.

But yes Yukio now has a katana in his hands. Said katana has a cracked blade too, but it is not broken all the way through. ]

[Steel will burn him too, just more slowly. It's hard, having a sensitivity like this to almost all the metal he'll ever work with. But the hilt is covered, and so that's enough to keep it from burning him.]

I've never seen anything like this before. No one can do this back home. [Rin is a sword and Yukio really should have put more effort into his Knight training when Shura was still around.]
