Week 0, Sunday

[Hey Flat! Rin is looking a bit shaken up after that horrific execution and is going around the city looking for other signs of those spectres he could barely see.

Will Flat be nice and announce his presence, or will he scare the shit out of Rin?]

as soon as flat sees rin, he’ll raise his voice to make his presence known. ]

Riiin! What’s wrong?

[Rin does jump a little, but it's not as bad as it would have been if Flat had just jumped out at him.]

What do you think is wrong? Those spectres could still be around you know!

Oh, the spectres?

[ hmmm that would be something to worry about. ]

They were pretty scary...but maybe if we run really fast they won't catch up to us? Though I don't see any around right now...

Could you even see them to begin with? I barely saw them.

[escardos]

They were kind of hazy, but I saw them well enough. Kind of like if they were at 80 percent opacity.

[ ... ]

I wonder if it has to do with our ages. You're 16, right?

[aono]

Yeah, I'm 16. And what I saw was like...movements? I couldn't make out any details besides "something's there".

[ after flat has had some time to cool his head, he'll approach the place where they're holding rin.

unlike his usual self, his expression is practically unreadable. jack, as a wolf, trots beside him. ]

Rin.

Hey. You okay?

[He saw the way Flat ran off suddenly. Given the number of cryptids here, Rin wouldn't be surprised if Flat is living something similar to what Rin is.]

[escardos]

[ he shakes his head. whether that's him answering that he's not okay or him telling rin to stop pursuing the question, it's unsure. ]

Is there any way we can help protect your brother?

[aono]

[Ah. Yukio.

Rin seems to slump down a little in his place.]

Just...stay with him? When he's upset he'll smile and say everything's fine and then close in on himself and cry in private. He needs a friend here, more than anything.

[escardos]

There's... probably better people than me for that.

[ he closes his eyes. ]

But I'll do my best. We're roommates right now.

[ ... ]

Is this the first time you lost control like that?

Make sure he sleeps too, he'll go days without sleep if someone doesn't force him to sleep.

He...he likes mineral water, if you can find any. And when I cook anything for him, I make it a little less spicy than normal, because he doesn't like the spice that much. He drinks coffee but it's more to stay awake than because he likes it, so be sure to add plenty of sugar to it. And for dinner-

[That's where his voice cracks and tears start to come out again.]

Week 3, Sunday

[He didn't see Flat leave the execution, because the demon was in control then. But hours later, when he's had time to calm down some and start to compartmentalize his grief, he thinks to go looking for Flat.

Where will he find him?]

[ flat will be by the oasis fountains! he seems to be focused on... ]

Jack. Play dead.

[ jack falls to the side.

it seems he's teaching jack tricks. ]

Rin would stand there and watch, but Rinkou is making distressed noises and waddling over to Jack now.]

[ as soon as it sees rinkou waddling over, jack rolls back up, ruffling its feathers to show that it's okay! it's fine!

flat's mouth opens for a moment, but he's not sure how to...greet??? rin???

give him a moment.

... ]

Is your hair going to stay that way forever now?

[aono]

[Jack! Is okay!!! Rinkou makes a slightly less distressed noise before settling down near Jack.

Rin, meanwhile, reaches up to touch his hair.]

I guess? It happened when my sword broke, so I guess this is what my demon side looks like.

[escardos]

[ if rinkou allows it, jack will try to preen it.

flat smiles. it's not one that's full of energy, but it's an honest one. ]

For what it's worth, I think it looks neat. And you'd be the second friend I have that is a demon.

Week 4, Thursday

[KNOCK KNOCK MOTHERFUCKER THE FOOD TRUCK IS HERE]

Heyyyyy, Flat! You awake?

[escardos]

[ sticking their head out to stare directly at rin with a dispassionate stare. ]

He's asleep. What do you want?

[aono]

[He would have called Flat a joker, but he remembers how Flat reacted last week after the trial. So it actually gets him to stop, and he peers at Flat. He's trying to see if anything has noticeably changed about him in a "this is another voice speaking" kind of way.

After a few seconds he does answer.]

I, er, brought food? If he's asleep I can leave it here for him to eat later.

[escardos]

...You're the one from last week.

[ their eyes widen just slightly in recognition, though nothing else changes.

they consider for a moment...before opening the door. ​]

[aono]

Yeah, that's me.

[Rin will step in when he's invited, and he'll set down a glass of water and a plate of some kind of meat and roasted vegetables onto a dresser or table nearby.]

Are you Flat? Or...?

[escardos]

[ they shake their head. why do they keep asking the same thing... ]

You can call me Flat.

[ ...

he'll take the plate and start eating it. ]
