Week 1, post-trial

[Well I made this post ages ago and now it's time to use it.

Rin is going to track Spike down after the trial.]

For what, exactly? I'm not exactly the groupie type.

See, I've been thinking: these killings might be related to the game. I think it's like...someone from one team killing someone from the other. But we can't just go around asking everyone their teams, that'll cause trouble. And I've already talked to several people about teams this week, so I don't think I can do it anymore.

Do you think you can find out what team Bertoldt is on?

...What, like, visit him in prison and interrogate him about it?

[He could go poking around the guy's room but...]

I think you're right, and if I had to guess I'd say Berty's a Celestial, but I'm not sure how I would go about proving that unless you got any ideas?

The Watchers might be willing to talk about it next week too. I asked and they told me Qu Rong and Marius' teams.

But what I'm thinking is, we haven't been told much of anything about this game. So what if that's the game? Hunt down members of the other team like it's some fucked up game of laser tag.

Like a team death match, yeah.

It's clearly set up so that we're not able to communicate our teams or bring it out in the open. Maybe if we can get a hold of their coins...

We can a little bit, but like. I only told my brother my team and I don't really want to push it further. But I can at least say you can tell one person without anything bad happening?

So it's probably only if word gets out.

...Can you say if you're on the same team, though? Or did he not share with the class.

...guess that can't hurt. So no, we're on different teams.

[He waits a moment like he's expecting to be struck down, but nothing happens?]

Well, that's cruel of them.

You two get along or should you be concerned? [He's only half joking.]

We get along alright, yeah. I mean, brothers fight sometimes, but we care about each other.

[bloodyromance]

[He just shrugs. Good enough for him.]

Don't have siblings, never did, so I wouldn't know. [Buffy and Dawn fought, though.

.....yeah, that's about all the siblings he knows.] But I guess the question is if we can snatch people's coins and find out what their teams are. That'll be the way to figure out the pattern to it, I'm guessing.

Isn't that against the rules?

Did they ever say that? Don't think they did.

They might make it a rule after we're done but they can't justify this kind of game continuing by punishing us innocent swaddling little babes for poking about where our curiosity takes us.

I dunno dude, the last time some shithead authority figure didn't like what I did he cut my foot off. It might be better to ask first.

[He chuckles, like an asshole.]

Yeah, probably. I'll ask Baraq next week.

They'll probably say it's okay, I think they're at least part demon.

[Demons. Always some level of 'do whatever you want'.]

Wekk 2, post-trial

[After all of that he is absolutely tracking down Spike. He felt those vibes, vampire bud. And since Rin is part demon, he probably stands the best chance at not being seen as food.]

Hey, what's going on?

[bloodyromance]

[He's not picky in his eating habits. He's just chilling out on one of the balconies, a cigarette in his mouth.]

I'm a monster without a leash, kid.

That's what's going on.

[Time to climb up there and sit with him!]

Is it hard to live with? I can feel the things you're feeling, it seems like a lot.

[bloodyromance]

I'm not capable of feeling remorse. I'm a soulless demon.

The watchers - the watchers back home, that is, they got this theory that when a vampire dies his brain and body gets taken over by a demonic parasite that just thinks that it's the person it's possessing. Some vampires, ones who don't want to be anything resembling human, they go along with the story. But it's horse-shit.

[He picks up his Daemon, currently a vampire back, who just squeaks.]

This is all that's left of my humanity. This fragile little prick. My one shot at escape, and my one way ticket to centuries of guilt and self hatred.

[Rin looks to the vampire bat, then back to Spike.]

That...actually would fit with how vampires in my world are, yeah. So it might be true.

But you know, just because you don't feel remorse doesn't mean you're a soulless demon. I'm sure you do still have a soul, you wouldn't have a daemon without one. And I don't feel remorse for any of the animals I cook and eat, so it doesn't seem right to call you a monster for just eating.

It's not true. Not in my world, at least. It's a coping mechanism disguised as academic knowledge. They need the slayers to dehumanize vampires, so they pretend there's nothing left of the human within.

[He smiles in faint amusement.]

And my soul's in... I don't know where. Some kind of afterlife. It just got yanked back down here to be chained to me. [He pets Erastis, who looks up at him and squeaks. Rin would get the impression he's fantacizing about snapping it's neck. But knows he wouldn't actually do it. He's not that stupid.]

Where I'm from, a human's soul doesn't go anywhere when they're possessed. They're just...napping, I guess? Inside their body, while the demon controls them. And then when the demon gets kicked out of the person's body, they wake up without really remembering what happened.

[Rin's world might be a bit kinder because of that. Shounen demon logic.]

But why do you dislike the idea of having a soul?

[bloodyromance]

[He sighs.]

Because it'd mean there's nothing left of me. Taking everything I am and replacing it with a lie, that I can be a real boy like Timmy from Passions.

I don't know if I want it like that.
